Client - Heat Pump in Sittingbourne, Murston Heart
It was a privilege to be involved in this community heat pump project in Kent, situated in Murston, near Sittingbourne. Murston Heart was previously a derelict medieval chancel building situated next to Murston All Saints church. The restoration was carried out by Gransden Construction with a vision to create six studios, a cafe and a community education room which was made possible by National Lottery players, charities, and Swale Borough Council. The Trust and builder were keen to investigate into an air to air heat pump system, opting for a renewable heating as opposed to using gas or oil heating.
It was important to design a heat pump system that would create enough hot water and provide a constant heat of 21° to service all the buildings. Our engineers Installed a 9K/w Daikin air source heat pump with a 250L water cylinder which provides enough hot water for all areas. A staggering 980 m of under floor heating was fitted which will create a nice ambient temperature for the 6 studios and community areas. We fitted all the plumbing for the toilets and kitchen, installing basins, toilets, and a catering kitchen.
It was important as a community project to recommend a low carbon heat pump system, the trust can now look forward to welcoming the community to the café and studios and benefiting from heat pump efficiency and low heating costs.
